Railroad Commission Posts Parker, Tarrant and Wise County Injection Well Data

Posted on:

AUSTIN — The Railroad Commission of Texas has posted injection well data from Parker, Tarrant and Wise counties on its website at http://www.rrc.state.tx.us/about-us/resource-center/research/special-studies/.

On May 6, 2014, the Commission requested data from seven oil and gas operators with active injection wells in northeast Parker County, northwest Tarrant County and southeast Wise County to acquire information to assist academic researchers in understanding whether oil and gas operations may be related to recent seismic activity observed in the area. A series of small earthquakes occurred in the Azle area between November 2013 and January 2014.

The Railroad Commission of Texas seismologist, Dr. Craig Pearson, is facilitating the data exchanges between operators and academic institutions interested in conducting the research required to ultimately determine the cause of recent seismic activity in Parker and Tarrant counties.

Operators responding to the data request to date include Bridgeport Tank Trucks, L.L.C., Devon Energy Production Co., L.P., Enervest Operating, L.L.C., Finley Resources, Inc. and XTO Energy. They provided information to the Commission in their possession they do not consider proprietary in nature.

“The Commission appreciates industry cooperation in the gathering of this data. Posting of the information to the Commission’s website is part of our continued effort to ensure the public is informed of our efforts to scientifically investigate seismic events in Texas,” Dr. Pearson said.
