Texas posts third year of manufacturing gains bolstered by drilling activity

There are now 22,567 manufacturers in Texas employing 1,236,617 people, with huge gains in job growth in manufacturing sectors from oil and gas production.

The Lone Star State added 31,198 industrial jobs to its ranks from May 2013 to May 2014, according to a manufacturers database and directory published by Manufacturers’ News, Inc. The increase added up to a 2.5 percent increase statewide. There are now  22,567 manufacturers in Texas employing 1,236,617 people.

“Manufacturing is booming in Texas, particularly in oil and gas extraction and chemical production,” says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. “The state’s low business taxes, access to capital, and focus on innovation have ranked it among the top places to do business.”
